Kingdom: Tamashii no Kessen ( The Decisive Battle of Souls ), the fifth installment of the Kingdom live-action film series, opened in 384 theaters across Japan on July 17. It debuted at number one in the weekend box office rankings, overtaking Toy Story 5 (which had dominated the charts for two consecutive weekends), according to Kogyo Tsushinsha . The fifth Kingdom film earned 1.584 billion yen (9.7 million USD) from 993,000 admissions in its opening weekend from Friday through Sunday. This was 97.3% of the opening weekend for the fourth installment, Kingdom: Daishogun no Kikan ( Return of the Great General ), which became the highest-grossing entry in the series in 2024. This three-day result was also the best for a live-action film released in Japan so far in 2026. In its first four days, including the Marine Day holiday on Monday, Tamashii no Kessen collected 2.064 billion yen (12.65 million USD) from 1,315,000 admissions. This represented 89.5% of admissions and 93.6% of box office revenue compared to the same period of the previous film.
