The official website for the upcoming live-action film adaptation of Tatsuki Fujimoto's Look Back manga announced today that the film was officially selected for the Competition section of the 83rd Venice International Film Festival (held in Venice, Italy) in September. The Venice International Film Festival is considered one of the big three film festivals in the world, alongside the Cannes Film Festival and the Berlin International Film Festival. Two Japanese films have been selected for this year's Competition section, with the other being Shinya Tsukamoto's Mr. Nelson, Did You Kill People? . Both films will compete for the Golden Lion, the festival's top prize. The results are scheduled to be announced on September 12. This marks director Hirokazu Kore-eda's fourth participation in the festival and his selection for the Competition section for the first time in seven years, following Maborosi (1995), The Third Murder (2017), and The Truth (2019). Natsuki Deguchi and Aju Makita, who co-starred in the leading roles, are scheduled to visit the venue alongside Director Kore-eda during the festival. This will be the first time Deguchi and Makita will attend the Venice International Film Festival, as well. Look Back is not the first live-action film based on a Japanese manga to be selected for the Competition section of the Venice International Film Festival.
