Mononoke , an original anime series focusing on supernatural themes, has announced that a “new project” is in development. A teaser trailer (below) and new artwork (above) have been published for the new project. The project stars Hirofumi Araki as the voice of the new character of the Northwest Sword Medicine Seller . Araki previously portrayed the South and Southwest Sword Medicine Sellers in the Mononoke stage plays. Additionally, Kenji Nakamura continues as general director for the Mononoke series, while Kitsuneko Nagata continues as character designer. Kadokawa Bunko will also publish three new novels - each one featuring one of the three Medicine Sellers as the protagonist. Mononoke New Project Trailer The Northwest Sword Medicine Seller and Hirofumi Araki The character of the Medicine Seller debuted in the 2006 anthology anime Ayakashi: Samurai Horror Tales , leading to the standalone 2006 Mononoke TV anime. A trilogy of Mononoke films and stage plays have also been produced, with the most recent film Mononoke: The Curse of the Serpent releasing in Japan in May 2026. Netflix currently streams the Mononoke films.
