According to a post on the official Leiji-sha home page , a new Galaxy Express 999 theatrical anime film has been announced. The new film features a story concept by Rintaro (director of Galaxy Express 999 and Adieu Galaxy Express 999 ) and animation production by Toei Animation. At the time of this reporting, no additional details about the film (such as the release date) have yet been revealed. Leiji Matsumoto serialized the original Galaxy Express 999 manga in Shonen Gahosha's Weekly Shonen King manga magazine from January 1977 to November 1981, with 18 volumes published in total. The series has also been adapted into a TV anime which broadcast from September 1978 to 1981 as well as three films released in 1979, 1981 and 1998. Crunchyroll currently streams the Galaxy Express 999 TV anime, and describes the story: In a distant future, Tetsuro a human boy who wants his body replaced with a robotic one.
