Chie Shinohara's Red River manga was serialized in Shogakukan's Shojo Comic magazine from January 1995 to June 2002. Its chapters were collected into 28 published tankobon volumes, and it was reported in 2019 that the series had over 20 million copies in circulation. Kosuke Kobayashi ( The Master of Ragnarök & Blesser of Einherjar ) directs the anime adaptation at studio Tatsunoko Production, with series composition by Yoriko Tomita ( The Elusive Samurai ), character designs by Kenji Fujisaki ( Blood Lad ) and music by Yoshihisa Hirano ( Ouran High School Host Club , Hunter x Hunter ).
