At the Crunchyroll Showcase at Anime Expo 2026 earlier today, the first details on The Rising of the Shield Hero   Season 5 were revealed, including the first teaser trailer, visual and a 2027 release window for the continuing adaptation of Aneko Yusagi’s isekai light novel series. Crunchyroll will be streaming the series as it airs in Japan in 2027. The Rising of the Shield Hero Season 5 Anime Teaser Trailer and Visual Hitoshi Haga ( Made in Abyss  assistant director) continues to direct  The Rising of the Shield Hero   Season 5 at studio Kinema Citrus, with assistant direction by Takanori Yamamoto, series composition by Keigo Koyanagi, character designs by Franziska van Wulfen, Sana Komatsu and Masahiro Suwa and music by Kevin Penkin ( Tower of God ), Alfredo Sirica and Natalie Jeffreys. Crunchyroll describes the overall story as such: Iwatani Naofumi, a run-of-the-mill otaku, finds a book in the library that summons him to another world. He is tasked with joining the sword, spear, and bow as one of the Four Cardinal Heroes and fighting the Waves of Catastrophe as the Shield Hero. Excited by the prospect of a grand adventure, Naofumi sets off with his party. However, merely a few days later, he is betrayed and loses all his money, dignity, and respect. Unable to trust anyone anymore, he employs a slave named Raphtalia and takes on the Waves and the world.
