Magic is so central to this society that the term "Mage" applies exclusively to human magic users — other races, like Elves and Dwarves, operate under their own distinct relationships with magical power. Elves, originally from another world, are far more skilled at magic than humans and look down on those they deem beneath them. Dwarves, by contrast, have no magical aptitude whatsoever — which makes them social outcasts in a world that measures worth by spellcasting ability… on the other hand they are physically gifted. The parallel with Will is not accidental.
