The official X (formerly Twitter) account for the Cosmic Princess Kaguya! anime film reported on September 22 that the film's cumulative box office gross in Japan surpassed 3 billion yen (19 million USD) on 1.5 million admissions, thanks to the revival screenings that began on September 18. Cosmic Princess Kaguya! began streaming worldwide on Netflix on January 22, 2026. Following its positive reception, the film opened in 19 theaters across Japan on February 20. Originally scheduled for a one-week limited engagement from February 20 to 26, the run was extended and expanded to more theaters due to its popularity. The film ended its original four-month theatrical run in Japan on June 18 , with a cumulative gross of over 2.7 billion yen (17 million USD) from 1.34 million admissions. The film's revival screenings, which include special formats (MX4D, 4DX, SCREENX, ULTRA 4DX, and Dolby Atmos) as well as standard screenings, began in 247 theaters nationwide on September 18. This means the revival screenings generated an additional 300 million yen or more in just about four days. Shingo Yamashita, known for his opening sequences for the JUJUTSU KAISEN and Chainsaw Man TV anime, directed Cosmic Princess Kaguya! at Studio Colorido and Studio Chromato, with a screenplay by Yamashita and Saeri Natsuo, character designs by Hechima and Nagae Akihiro and music by Conisch.
